Jarod Thomas MA, MAPM, LLPC (Resident Therapist)
For the past 25 years, I've walked alongside individuals through some of the most challenging seasons of their lives. I work with adolescents, adults, and couples on concerns ranging from depression, anxiety, trauma, to relational conflict and personal growth.
Alongside this broader practice, I have a particular passion for supporting people of faith — especially clergy, missionaries, and other Christian leaders — who give so much of themselves to others and rarely have a space of their own to be fully known.
A word to ministry professionals…
You've spent years pouring yourself out for the people in your care, experienced difficult transitions, weathered relational complexity most people never see, and pushed yourself beyond the point where you should have stopped. Coaching can help with professional growth for your present challenges, but when the same struggles keep resurfacing despite your best efforts, it's worth asking what's driving them.
Research increasingly shows that clergy experience higher rates of adverse childhood experiences than the general population. These early wounds can threaten integrity, blur boundaries, and accelerate burnout. Helping clients gain an honest perspective on their own story is a core aspect of my work, and I believe it's also an often-overlooked dimension of growth toward relational and spiritual maturity.
You may recognize some of this in yourself:
Your convictions have not dulled, but you are experiencing an exhaustion that doesn’t go away.
You have a history of pushing past your body and brain’s warning signs and have allowed your boundaries to quietly erode.
Relational complexity has caused you to withdraw socially, and you struggle to find compassion toward others, even with people you love most.
You have a genuine willingness to sacrifice for God and others, but lack the rhythms that connect you to the strength God longs to provide.
You’re the one in the public eye whom everyone confides in, with no place of your own to be supported and understood.
You have a sense that these issues started far earlier than you knew — before you'd had the chance to gain the maturity, perspective, and tools that your ministry now demands.
My approach
I work from three primary values: Competence that provides clinical skill, not just encouragement; Compassion, that goes beyond solving problems and addresses you as a person with dignity and grace, and Curiosity, to understand what's actually going on beneath the surface. That curiosity is what often takes our work beyond coaching and into the developmental roots of what you're carrying, the attachment patterns that shape how you relate to God and to others, and the relational dynamics that keep you stuck long after the immediate crisis has passed.
I strive to provide this kind of support and care while acknowledging an important caveat: only God provides lasting healing. What I can do is help create a space that is collaborative, honest, and unhurried, where together we invite God to do what He does best.
A confidential space built for people who rarely get one.
Clergy and other Christian workers often have nowhere safe to be fully honest. Perhaps a past breach of confidentiality taught you to keep things close, or you fear that parishioners, colleagues, or denominational leadership could use what you share against you. The same people you work with, or who oversee your assignments, ministry opportunities, and income, are rarely positioned to be objective. I offer a space outside that structure, which is bound by legal, ethical, and professional obligations to confidentiality.
About Jarod
My background includes an undergraduate degree in Near Eastern studies and Arabic from Wayne State University, a graduate degree in pastoral ministry from Andrews University, and a second graduate degree in clinical mental health counseling from Indiana Wesleyan University. I've served in education, pastoral ministry, administration, and cross-cultural work both domestically and internationally, which is part of why my particular passion is coming alongside clergy, missionaries, and other Christian leaders who give so much of themselves to others.
My approach is person-centered, attachment-informed, trauma-aware, and grounded in evidence-based methods — all rooted in biblical spirituality. You set the direction; I follow your lead and work at your pace. I pay close attention to the relational patterns formed early in life that continue to influence how you connect, lead, and cope today, and I work to create a space where old wounds can be safely explored alongside present struggles.
If you're ready to be real about where you are and to find your way back to rest, resilience, and the strength to finish well, I’d be honored to hear from you.
